The Big Idea

My name is Gabriel (or Gabe for short) and I'm an avid traveler and peace advocate. I'm currently a junior at Boston University studying public relations and political science. I spent this past summer traveling throughout Europe, and my overall travels have taken me to five continents and more than 15 countries. I am a Washington, D.C. native as well as a citizen of Costa Rica, my dad's home country. I spend most of last year working for the public affairs specialist at the New England Regional Peace Corps Office in Boston during the organization's 50th anniversary. I ultimately hope to join the Peace Corps and serve as an English teacher in a Spanish-speaking region of the world after graduating from BU.

My big plan is to pursue a career in either non-profit public relations or public affairs. With that said, I have an extreme passion for volunteering and giving back to those in need. Both high school and college have made it easy for me to join different community service groups and volunteer for various organizations. While there are many wonderful non-profits that are easy to get involved with, there are still numerous organizations that  suffer from lack of support. That's why I've decided to create this blog: to make suggestions for how non-profits (mostly in the Boston area) can improve in order to bring in the support needed to succeed. As a public relations student, I will specifically use the skills and theories that I've learned and apply them to this mission.

Each week I will focus on either a new concept, issue, or non-profit in hopes to spark ideas that will lead to furthering local volunteerism. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy my blog :)
